The OTs continued their league campaign with a long and arduous trip down to Winchester. Once again the team was unrecognisable from the OT cup team and there were as many as three debutantes on the pitch.
There was no pre-match drama this week compared to the farcical scenes at Aldenham. The OTs had a good warm up and, although the pitch was a little heavy, conditions were fair for both sides.
Like the weather, The OTs started brightly - Pete Taylorson winning a lot of ball in the air and his brother, Mark, looked assured in the centre of the park. Winchester looked like they had pace on the flanks, but it was Tonbridge who threatened first: Richard Cook latching onto an inswinging free-kick by Mark Mayo which was eventually smothered by the Winchester keeper.
There were a few errors beginning to creep into Tonbridge's play and they payed dearly for a needless foul with Winchester slamming in the resulting free kick from 35 yards. 5 minutes later, similar mistakes led to another thumping strike and Tonbridge were now in trouble. They never recovered. A nasty head injury to the industrious Pete Taylorson effectively ended the match - Tonbridge played the remaining 60 minutes with ten men.
After half time, to Tonbridge's credit, they fought bravely and right to the final whistle. However, Winchester added another 3 goals with only 1 coming in reply from the Thunderbolt himself. Not since 'that' strike back in 2007 had BGA been seen in the black and white kit - and he didn't dissapoint with his latest effort (allbeit a deflection from an indirect free kick).
All in all the result was a fair reflection on the difference between the teams. With some huge games coming up, Tonbridge will need more commitment to be shown from the squad if they wish to end the season on a positive note.
